About a month ago I took a close look at the number of real estate agents who use Facebook. The cohort was substantial: more than 150,000 members identify themselves as real estate agents.
I wasn’t able to identify the users of LinkedIn as neatly using the very advanced research techniques I applied to Facebook (Going into their ad tool and selecting different real estate terms and seeing how many users were part of that demographic).
Since then, with further experimentation, I discovered a new way to count the LinkedIn database. (Use the search box! Pretty obvious, isn’t it?)
Here’s what I found.
LinkedIn says that it has more than 36 million users in more than 200 countries. (The advertising tool offers reach to 37.8 million members.)
Of that total, 503,753 users use the keyword “Real Estate” in their profile. 149,543 have “Realtor” as a keyword, while 56,550 have the word “Real Estate Agent.”
A total of 828,047 users say they are involved in the Real Estate Industry. This includes commercial real estate, multi-family professionals, agents and related support industries.
In terms of actual titles, LinkedIn has 118,437 users who are currently calling themselves “Realtors.” Another 16,134 call themselves “Real Estate Agents.”
So, LinkedIn appears to have just under 135,000 active real estate agents in their membership. The scale appears to be generally comparable to the pool of agents on Facebook.
