A simple Twitter proposal

by drm on September 17, 2009

Here’s an idea: Let’s make our intentions clear with each of our Twitter posts.

As the service expands and is used for more and more things, we could all benefit from a simple system of conventional codes that signal what we intend with our post. These codes would let us quickly tell spam from targeted Twitter posts, fresh content from shared content, ads from real finds.

The convention exists already: the Hashtag.Picture 53.jpg

And in interest of conserving characters, we can make these codes a single letter.

A strawman of codes is presented in the graphic to the right.

How would it work? Simple: include the identifying code in each Tweet. Make it easier for people to understand your intent and the content of the whatever may be linked behind your tiny URL.

#P A simple Twitter proposal.

Just needs it to make sense to people.
