Currently our only real number seems to be “total followers” as opposed to “targeted followers”

    As marketers, our only real purpose is to drive more business, and driving more business is typically grounded in the numbers. Logically, I would sell many more widgets with a targeted ad in USA Today than in the local newspaper. Larger distribution = more sales but also = much higher marketing cost.

    However, with social networking, we are building our own audience, and it would seem beneficial to begin to track and understand and develop algorithms to start to narrow down and segment follower types and follower numbers by categories to develop a “model community” and to shift our marketing and panning for followers to a much better “match up” of targeted groups. This is sort of the reverse of how Netflix and Amazon can match users to movie and book preferences
